In a major security operation, joint security forces in Anambra State raided a suspected hideout of gunmen and kidnappers in Enugwu-Agidi, Njikoka Local Government Area, in the early hours of Thursday. The operation, led by Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s security team, Operation Udo Ga-Achi, occurred around 1 a.m. and resulted in several suspects fleeing the scene with injuries as the forces overpowered their base.
The strike force recovered an impressive arsenal of weapons, including two AK-47 rifles, eight pump-action guns, four locally made pistols, 101 rounds of ammunition in three packets of cartridges, four empty AK-47 magazines, three cutlasses, a Baofeng radio, a motorcycle, and several charms.
The raid was carried out in collaboration with the police, the Department of State Services (DSS), the military, and other security agencies, based on actionable intelligence. One gunman was arrested during the operation and is currently assisting with further investigations.
Since the establishment of the Operation Udo Ga-Achi Strike Force, six criminal camps have been dismantled across Anambra State, a notable step toward tackling the region's persistent security issues, including kidnappings and violent crimes. The state government’s dual approach of kinetic and non-kinetic strategies has been pivotal in improving the security situation.
Although Anambra Police spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga has not yet provided an update, the raid’s success was confirmed by the state government through the office of the Press Secretary to Governor Soludo.
