Nigeria’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, is leading discussions with Brazilian officials on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and GovTech, aiming to enhance digital transformation efforts.

The talks, part of Nigeria’s broader strategy ahead of a Technology Exchange mission to Brazil in April 2025, involved officials from the ApexBrasil Trade Promotion and Investment Attraction Agency, the Brazilian Support Service for Micro and Small Enterprises, ApexBrasil President Jorge Viana, and Brazilian Ambassador to Nigeria, Carlos Gacete.

A key focus was recognizing IHS Towers, a Nigerian-founded telecommunications infrastructure company with a significant presence in Brazil. Tijani emphasized Nigeria and Brazil’s strong trade ties, noting that bilateral trade reached $2.9 billion in 2022, primarily driven by petroleum and other commodities.

Discussions also highlighted Brazil’s expertise in leveraging GovTech to enhance government services, an area Nigeria seeks to develop. Tijani stressed the importance of bilateral cooperation, stating, “As leaders in the Global South, there is immense opportunity to harness Artificial Intelligence for development. Brazil’s expertise in GovTech will serve as a valuable resource as we look to improve our own public sector services through digital innovation.”
