Aregbesola’s Group Quits APC"

Aregbesola’s Group Leaves APC; Party Reacts. Read more...

The Omoluabi Progressives, led by former Osun Governor Rauf Aregbesola, announced its departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC) due to alleged ostracization, suspensions, and expulsions of its leaders without a fair hearing.

The group criticized the APC for its mishandling of the intra-party crisis in Osun, which contributed to its poor performance in the recent election cycle. They claimed that these internal issues diminished the party’s support among the people of Osun.

The decision was made during a monthly meeting held in Ilesa, where members from all 332 wards in Osun state ratified the motion. The group has expressed their intention to align with a different political camp ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

Aregbesola praised the group’s commitment to good governance and integrity, emphasizing their determination to ensure Osun’s prosperity. He assured that the efforts of the Omoluabi Progressives would soon yield positive results.

In response, the Osun State chapter of APC dismissed the group's departure, stating that they had already been largely absent from the party since 2022. Osun APC’s spokesperson, Chief Kola Olabisi, criticized the group’s decision, describing it as a “good riddance.” He labeled them “political vagabonds” who had long worked against the party's interests. Olabisi accused the group of still working for the opposition PDP, adding that their actions would not destabilize the APC. He also suggested that the group’s new political ventures would end in failure by the 2026 governorship election.

Despite the group’s defection, Osun APC remains confident in its strength and readiness for the future.
