The Lagos High Court has adjourned the defamation case filed by human rights lawyer Femi Falana and his son, Folarin Falana (aka Falz), against social media influencer Martins Otse (aka VDM) to February 19. The court will hear VDM's preliminary objection challenging the suit's competence and the court's jurisdiction.

VDM's lawyer, Marvin Omorogisto, requested more time to respond to the counter affidavit filed by the Falanas. The Falanas' lawyer, Omotade Omotunbosun, did not object to the adjournment.

The defamation case stems from a video VDM posted, alleging that the Falanas collected ₦10 million from Bobrisky to pervert justice. The Falanas are seeking ₦500 million each in damages and an apology from VDM.

Key Demands by the Falanas:

  • Declaration of Defamation: A declaration that VDM's publication is libelous, slanderous, and defamatory.
    - Damages: ₦500 million each for defamation of character.
  • - Perpetual Injunction: An order restraining VDM from further publishing defamatory content.
    - Apology: An order directing VDM to publish an apology on his social media handles and in a national newspaper.

The court had previously ordered VDM to take down the video and restrained him from publishing further defamatory content.
