The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed fake, expired, and substandard goods worth ₦1.3 billion at the Kuje dump site in Abuja.

Among the items destroyed were expired drugs, hospital equipment, cosmetics, food items, and other consumer goods. The agency also disposed of expired food items voluntarily handed over by various local and international organizations, including the World Food Programme (WFP).

Speaking at the event, the Director General of NAFDAC, Professor Moji Adeyeye, represented by Festus Ukadike, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to safeguarding public health. She highlighted the importance of removing fake and unsafe products from circulation to protect consumers and ensure quality control in the market.

Professor Adeyeye commended organizations like the WFP for their cooperation in handing over expired goods for proper disposal, describing it as a step toward maintaining public safety and trust.

This initiative underscores NAFDAC's ongoing efforts to combat counterfeit and substandard products, ensuring that only safe and effective items reach consumers across Nigeria.

The destruction exercise further serves as a reminder of the agency’s role in protecting the public from the harmful effects of fake and expired products.
