Sundance begins Thursday with Olivia Colman and John Lithgow’s “Jimpa” opening the festival, as the film industry gathers under the shadow of recent devastating Los Angeles wildfires.

The festival features 88 films, including “Rebuilding,” starring Josh O’Connor as a rancher grappling with wildfire loss. Another highlight, “Didn’t Die,” an indie zombie movie, mirrors the filmmakers’ own displacement during the blazes.

Jennifer Lopez debuts “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” while Benedict Cumberbatch stars in “The Thing With Feathers.” Rapper A$AP Rocky and Conan O’Brien join a mystery, and documentaries spotlight global politics and resilience, including Jacinda Ardern's “Prime Minister” and Gaza-centered “Coexistence, My Ass!”

Sundance runs through February 2 in Park City, Utah.
