Dortmund’s 2-1 defeat at Bologna marks their fourth consecutive loss in all competitions.

Borussia Dortmund have dismissed head coach Nuri Sahin following a 2-1 Champions League loss at Bologna on Tuesday. The club cited a lack of faith in Sahin’s ability to turn their season around.

The defeat marked Dortmund’s fourth consecutive loss across all competitions, with the team languishing in 10th place in the Bundesliga, a staggering 20 points behind league leaders Bayern Munich.

"We have unfortunately lost faith that we will achieve our sporting goals," said Dortmund’s sporting CEO, Lars Ricken, on Wednesday. "This decision hurts but was unavoidable."

Sahin, 36, was promoted to head coach in the summer after serving as assistant coach during Dortmund’s surprise run to last season’s Champions League final, where they lost to Real Madrid.

German media speculate that potential replacements include former Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag and ex-Benfica coach Roger Schmidt.

Interim Coach Appointed

U19 coach Mike Tullberg has been named interim head coach, starting with Saturday’s home match against Werder Bremen.

Sahin expressed disappointment, saying, "I was not able to live up to Dortmund’s sporting ambitions at this time. I wish this special club all the best."

Struggles Continue

Under Sahin, Dortmund struggled on the road, losing nine of 15 away matches. They also exited the German Cup in the last 32 against Wolfsburg. Despite their poor form, Dortmund remain hopeful of progressing to the Champions League knockout stages.

Sahin, a Dortmund legend who played 274 games for the club, is the latest casualty in a turbulent period for the club's management. Dortmund have had eight head coaches since Jürgen Klopp's departure in 2015, with few managing to stabilize the team.
