The much-anticipated musical sequel Joker: Folie à Deux received seven Razzie nominations on Tuesday, including Worst Picture and Worst Sequel. Despite high expectations following the success of its 2019 predecessor, the film fell flat, earning just $200 million at the box office—only a fifth of the original's billion-dollar revenue.
The Razzie nods also target its leads: Joaquin Phoenix, who previously won an Oscar for his portrayal of the Joker, was nominated for Worst Actor, while Lady Gaga received a Worst Actress nomination.
Critics and audiences panned the film for its exorbitant budget and lackluster execution, placing it alongside other high-profile flops like Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis and Dakota Johnson's superhero spin-off Madame Web. Both earned six Razzie nominations, as did the presidential biopic Reagan and the game adaptation Borderlands.
The satirical Golden Raspberries, established to poke fun at Hollywood’s missteps, will announce winners just ahead of this year’s Academy Awards nominations on Thursday.
