The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down a warehouse in Kaduna for stocking expired food and cosmetic products valued at over ₦75 million.
Acting on a tip from a concerned citizen, the agency raided the warehouse at PP2A Bayajidda Street by Kano Road, New Ogbomosho Road, Kaduna. Workers were caught repackaging expired biscuits into sacks. Other expired items discovered included dairy milk, vegetable oil, soft drinks, detergents, and “H-Pylori” test kits—posing serious public health risks.
NAFDAC revealed that the warehouse’s managing director has been arrested and assured that strict regulatory sanctions would follow the conclusion of the investigation.
The agency highlighted its guidelines for handling unwholesome products, emphasizing that no food, medicine, medical device, or cosmetic should be sold or used in Nigeria unless registered with NAFDAC. Products are deemed unwholesome if expired, improperly stored, counterfeit, substandard, or unauthorized.
NAFDAC urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities or products to the nearest NAFDAC office to safeguard public health.
