China has issued a firm response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent announcement of a potential 10% tariff on Chinese imports, warning that it will take all necessary measures to protect its national interests.

“We have always believed that there are no winners in a trade war or a tariff war,” said Mao Ning, a spokeswoman for China’s foreign ministry, during a press briefing on Wednesday. She underscored Beijing’s determination to safeguard its economic and political priorities against external pressures.

Trump's proposed tariff, which could take effect as early as February 1, is the latest escalation in ongoing trade tensions between the two economic giants. The move has raised concerns about the potential for further strain on global trade and economic stability.

Mao Ning reiterated China’s long-held stance against trade conflicts, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and cooperation to resolve disputes. She stressed that unilateral actions like tariffs only harm both parties and disrupt the broader global economy.

While specific countermeasures were not disclosed, Mao made it clear that China remains prepared to respond decisively to any actions that threaten its economic interests or sovereignty.

The announcement marks a continuation of the tense trade relationship between the U.S. and China, with both sides maintaining their positions in a struggle that has already impacted industries and consumers worldwide.
