On Monday, China executed Fan Weiqiu, 62, who killed 35 people in a car rampage in Zhuhai on November 11. Fan drove his SUV through crowds of people exercising outside a sports complex, also injuring 45 others. This marked China’s deadliest mass attack in years. Sentenced to death for his "extremely vile" actions, Fan’s execution followed an order from the Supreme People’s Court. The court noted his crime stemmed from personal frustrations, including a broken marriage and dissatisfaction with his divorce settlement.

Fan’s attack has sparked nationwide shock and discussions about societal issues in China, including rising frustration over the economy and social mobility. This marks China’s second execution in a week related to mass violence, with a separate case involving a mass stabbing in Jiangsu province.
