NCDMB to Partner with Nigerian Academy of Science on Research & Development
The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDM has announced a partnership with the Nigerian Academy of Science (NAS) to advance research and development (R&D) in the country.
Speaking during the official commissioning of the NAS-TY Danjuma Science Museum and Library Building at NAS headquarters in Abuja, NCDMB Executive Secretary, Engr. Felix Ogbe, emphasized the board’s commitment to scientific and technological progress.
Represented by Barr. Esueme Dan Kikile, NCDMB’s General Manager, Corporate Communications and Zonal Coordination, Ogbe reaffirmed the board’s dedication to fostering innovation and scientific exploration. He highlighted NCDMB’s ongoing collaboration with Shell Petroleum Company, the Bayelsa State Government, and the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) on the Oloibiri Oil Museum and Research Centre, a long-awaited project aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s oil and gas research capabilities.
Ogbe stated that R&D is a core focus of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act, and the board is actively promoting research initiatives to drive national progress.
“The museum would not only focus on the building itself but would also serve as a centre for research. After over five decades of oil production in our country, it is essential that we have a place dedicated to oil and gas research,” he noted.
Strengthening STEAM and National Development
NAS President, Prof. Ekanem I. Braide, emphasized that the newly commissioned museum will serve as a vital resource for advancing Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) education. He highlighted that NAS fellows strongly believe that research must drive policy, and policy must be effectively implemented to achieve sustainable national development.
Braide further stressed the need for collaboration among researchers, government agencies, industries, and local communities to ensure impactful scientific breakthroughs.
NCDMB’s Commitment to R&D
Ogbe also disclosed that NCDMB has established a $50 million fund dedicated to Research and Development, reinforcing the board’s commitment to innovation and technological advancement. He urged stakeholders to take R&D seriously, noting that it is a critical tool for national development.
