The Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, met on Monday in Abuja with the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, and Managing Director of the Bank of Agriculture, Ayo Sotinrin, to discuss strategic collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The discussions focused on support for Nigeria’s agricultural sector ahead of the 2025 wet season, targeting up to 500,000 farmers. The initiative is set to enhance food production through timely distribution of farm inputs, improved post-harvest management, and better access to markets—key measures to achieve food security and rural economic growth.

This collaboration aligns with the ongoing implementation of JICA’s Food Security Emergency Support programme. Valued at ¥12 billion, the fund is designed to strengthen sustainable food systems in Nigeria and bolster resilience against global supply chain disruptions.
The partnership underscores the Nigerian government’s commitment to securing its agricultural future and ensuring prosperity in rural communities through international cooperation and targeted economic reforms.
