Osun Governor Adeleke’s Administration Spends N3.1Billion On Foreign Trips In Six Months;More Than On Basic Education, Water Supply.

A budget review by SaharaReporters has revealed that Osun State under Governor Ademola Adeleke spent N3.1 billion on international travels between January and June 2025,surpassing allocations to key development sectors like basic education and water supply.

The report shows that “international travels and transport (others)” consumed N2.854 billion, while an additional N256 million was spent on “international travels and transport (training).”

This total outstrips spending on essential service:The Ministry of Water Resources spent N1.263 billion,The State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) got N2.094 billion,The Primary Healthcare Development Board received just N156 million. Other notable expenditures during the six-month period include:N1.674 billion on refreshments and meals,N702.8 million on honorariums and sitting allowances.

Despite generating N30.5 billion in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in the first half of 2025, the state spent N12.097 billion, almost 40%,on debt servicing alone.

In comparison, tertiary institutions received less funding:Osun State University, Osogbo: N3.8 billion,University of Ilesa: N2.6 billion Osun State Polytechnic, Iree: N1.957 billion. Observers say these figures raise serious questions about the state government’s fiscal priorities.

Experts warn that rising debt costs and extravagant spending on non-essential items could undermine long-term development and worsen Osun’s financial health. With limited revenue and mounting public concern, analysts urge a shift in focus toward critical sectors like education, health, and infrastructure.
