Police Investigates Viral Video of Influencer in Uniform
The Nigeria Police Force has expressed serious concerns over an online video where popular influencer Mr. Martins Otse, known as “VeryDarkMan” (VDM), appears in a police uniform. In the video, VDM introduces himself as “CSP VeryDarkMan” and claims to be Nigeria’s top online enforcer, aiming to "cleanse" social media by exposing and shaming alleged wrongdoers, particularly dishonest online vendors.
VDM remarked that, unlike regular police procedures, he would bypass protocol to publicly denounce those he deems offenders, presenting evidence directly on his platform.
In response, the Police released a statement on Saturday, confirming an investigation into the video and firmly disassociating itself from the unauthorized use of police uniforms. The Force is working to determine the source of the uniform and the authority under which it was obtained.
The statement also warned the public that the unauthorized use of police uniforms, badges, or symbols is illegal, citing Section 251 of the Criminal Code Law and Section 133 of the Penal Code Law, which carry strict penalties for such offenses.
While the Police supports young Nigerians’ creativity, it emphasized that the misuse of official symbols undermines the values and integrity of the Force and will not be tolerated.

Supreme Court Reserves Judgment in Case Challenging Legality of EFCC and Others
The Supreme Court has reserved its judgment in a case filed by 16 states questioning the constitutionality of the laws establishing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and two other entities. The date for the ruling will be communicated to the involved parties.
During Tuesday’s hearing, the states of Imo, Bauchi, and Osun joined the lawsuit as co-plaintiffs, while Anambra, Ebonyi, and Adamawa opted to withdraw their suits. The court subsequently struck out these three states’ cases.
Representing the defendant, the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), requested the court to consider a process filed earlier that morning.
Calls for the dissolution of the EFCC continue to spark debates, with the anti-corruption agency accusing some governors of attempting to undermine its efforts. The EFCC's Director of Public Affairs, Wilson Uwujaren, stated that the push to disband the agency is because governors are "feeling the heat" of its anti-corruption activities, a persistent issue in Nigeria.
