The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in Oyo State has arrested 40 individuals suspected of illegal residence in the country during an operation in Akinyele Local Government Area.
The arrests, confirmed by State Comptroller Tayo Dada, followed intelligence on undocumented foreigners in the area. The group consisted of 27 Cameroonians, 10 from Benin Republic, two from Ghana, and one from Togo.
The detainees, aged 18 to 35, included 32 males and eight females, all without valid travel documents or residence permits, and had entered through unauthorized routes. Thirty of them claimed to be involved in online marketing, while 10 were farmers.
Comptroller Dada emphasized that their presence violated Nigerian immigration laws, reinforcing the commitment to national security. Comptroller General Kemi Nandap has ordered repatriation for the individuals, and Dada urged adherence to documentation protocols to avoid penalties.
