A Russian court has sentenced a man to 13 years in prison on treason charges for attempting to join the Ukrainian army, the FSB security service reported on Tuesday.
Since Russia’s full-scale military invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Moscow has imprisoned dozens of Russians accused of supporting or collaborating with Ukraine’s military forces.
The individual, Artem Konstantinov, born in 2000, allegedly reached out to a Ukrainian army recruiter via the Telegram messaging app, expressing his intent to fight against Russian forces on Ukrainian soil. A court in Murmansk, located in Russia’s Arctic region, sentenced him to 13 years in prison for his actions.
