Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has strongly dismissed allegations of financial misconduct leveled against his administration by the former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abdullahi Baffa Bichi. Bichi had claimed that the current administration misappropriated N2 billion from local government funds, and that former Governor Musa Kwankwaso had illicitly received payments from the state treasury.

Responding to these accusations, Governor Yusuf addressed 484 elected ward councillors at the Coronation Hall of the Government House, stating that the allegations were “false and baseless” and aimed to tarnish the reputation of his administration and political mentor, Senator Kwankwaso.

Governor Yusuf reiterated that his administration remained transparent, committed to accountability, and vigilant against corruption. “No thief can be comfortable among us. As long as someone is a thief, they cannot stay here,” he stated, emphasizing the integrity of his government. He also expressed surprise that Bichi, who had previously held a prominent position in the administration, would make such claims after leaving office.

The governor questioned Bichi’s credibility, particularly after the former SSG allegedly accused the current government of embezzling funds on a larger scale than previous administrations. “Does this statement come from someone thinking rationally?” the governor remarked.

In addition, Governor Yusuf rejected claims that Senator Kwankwaso received monthly payments from the state government, describing such accusations as “malicious fabrications.” He defended Kwankwaso’s legacy, highlighting his successful tenure as a governor, minister, and presidential candidate.

“Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is not a thief, and the people of Kano are proud of him,” Governor Yusuf declared, asserting that these false claims would not tarnish the former governor’s name.

Challenging the legitimacy of the accusations, the governor questioned whether Bichi’s actions were in line with the values of a true Kano indigene. He urged those making baseless claims to reconsider their actions and avoid spreading falsehoods. “A true Kano indigene would never stoop so low as to insult our leaders and spread falsehoods against them,” Yusuf concluded.
