Traffic in the upscale Ikoyi and Lekki areas of Lagos State came to a standstill on Wednesday morning after a container-laden truck damaged overhead billboards near the Lekki Link Bridge, heading toward the Alexandra Roundabout.
The truck, which was blocking about 85% of the road since 5:30 a.m., caused a major disruption, rendering the road inaccessible for vehicles. Motorists and early commuters, heading to work, were left stranded as emergency responders worked to clear the debris.
A spokesman for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofiq, informed Channels Television that a welder had been called in to cut off some of the barriers knocked down by the truck.
“The road has been temporarily cordoned off, and efforts are ongoing to remove the damaged barrier,” he said.
