President Bola Tinubu and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori have led tributes for the late elder statesman, Edwin Clark, who passed away at 97.
Clark’s family announced his death in a statement on Tuesday, and since then, tributes have been pouring in from across the country.
In a condolence message, President Tinubu expressed sadness at the loss, noting Clark’s tireless fight for the rights of the Niger Delta people, unity in diversity, and true federalism. He added that Clark’s contributions to national prosperity and stability would be remembered for generations.
Tinubu described Clark as a man of conviction who, despite political differences, always advocated for a united Nigeria based on justice and equity. He emphasized Clark’s influential role as a politician whose words commanded respect and whose patriotism left a lasting impact.
Governor Oborevwori, in his tribute, hailed Clark as a patriot and role model who championed fairness, equity, and justice for the Niger Delta. He noted that Clark’s loss was deeply personal, as he was a mentor and father figure to him, and extended condolences to Clark’s family, the people of Kiagbodo, and the Ijaw nation.
