Musk Unveils ‘Scary Smart’ Grok 3 AI Chatbot with Enhanced Capabilities

Elon Musk has launched Grok 3, an advanced AI chatbot boasting ten times the computational power of its predecessor. The new chatbot is designed to outperform competitors like ChatGPT and DeepSeek, with Musk highlighting its enhanced reasoning and self-correction features.

Elon Musk has unveiled the latest version of his AI chatbot, Grok 3, which boasts ten times the computational power of its predecessor released last August. Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, aims for Grok 3 to make its mark in the competitive AI space, currently dominated by the likes of OpenAI’s ChatGPT and China’s DeepSeek.

Grok 3 is designed to be “scary smart,” according to Musk, who highlighted its advanced reasoning capabilities and self-correction mechanisms that eliminate common AI errors known as “hallucinations.” These improvements help Grok 3 provide more accurate responses, addressing concerns some AI chatbots face when processing false information.

Speaking at the World Governments Summit in Dubai, Musk emphasized that Grok 3’s design was inspired by curiosity about the universe, which Musk claims drives the AI’s truth-seeking nature, even if the results challenge political correctness. The new version of Grok is expected to outperform current chatbots, Musk noted.

Initially, Grok 3 will be available to Premium+ subscribers of X (formerly Twitter), the social media platform Musk acquired in 2022, before being rolled out to the broader user base.

The launch places Grok 3 in direct competition with other global AI products, such as DeepSeek’s R1 chatbot, which made waves for offering a high-quality, low-cost alternative to US-developed AI technologies. Additionally, Musk is set against his former collaborator-turned-rival Sam Altman, who is at the helm of OpenAI, the company that released the globally popular ChatGPT.

Musk’s history with OpenAI dates back to its founding in 2015, where he was a key financial backer and co-founder. However, after stepping away from the organization in 2018, Musk’s relationship with OpenAI has grown increasingly strained, especially after OpenAI’s explosive success with ChatGPT and Musk’s recent failed attempt to purchase the company.

Musk’s latest AI venture is also intertwined with his close ties to US President Donald Trump, who has made AI a focal point of his administration’s initiatives. Musk, who has assumed a significant advisory role within Trump’s administration, now also leads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), where he’s pushing for a radical overhaul of the US bureaucracy. Critics, however, raise concerns about potential conflicts of interest, given Musk’s substantial stakes in multiple tech ventures, including xAI, SpaceX, and Tesla.

Additionally, xAI is reportedly seeking investors for a $10 billion funding round, which would value the company at around $75 billion. Musk’s dual roles in the government and his business ventures continue to spark debates about his influence and the future of AI regulation in the US.
