Katsina Governor Dikko Radda launches a ₦5.7 billion initiative to empower women and farmers through goat rearing.
Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has launched the Goat Rearing Initiative Programme, aimed at positioning the state as a key player in livestock production. The initiative, valued at ₦5.7 billion, focuses on empowering local farmers, particularly women, by providing resources, training, and support to successfully raise goats.
The programme, organized by the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Community Level Committees, was designed to acknowledge and support the vital role women play in driving economic growth. It includes training on livestock nutrition, health management, and sustainable farming practices.
The initiative also includes infrastructure development and financial support, with 10 women and one large-scale farmer selected from each of the state’s 361 political wards. Each woman will receive four goats (one male and three females), while large-scale farmers will be given 50 goats.
The State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Hadiza Yar’adua, and the Special Adviser on Livestock and Grazing Reserves, Yusuf Jibia, praised the programme as a significant investment in economic stability and livelihood improvement. Beneficiaries are expected to repay by returning an equal number of goats after a set period.
Governor Radda also announced plans to establish a goat farm in Rimi Local Government for genetic improvement and high-quality production, which will serve as a training center for goat breeding and animal husbandry.
