Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf signs the Kano State Security Neighborhood Watch Law, 2025, to enhance community-driven security efforts. The new law aims to curb crime and improve public safety across the state.
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has officially signed the Kano State Security Neighborhood Watch Law, 2025, aimed at boosting security and crime prevention at the grassroots level.
The law, passed by the Kano State House of Assembly, creates a legal framework for community-based security initiatives to support law enforcement efforts and enhance public safety.
During the signing ceremony at the 25th Kano State Executive Council meeting at the Government House, Governor Yusuf highlighted the vital role of community involvement in addressing security challenges.
“This law is a crucial step in ensuring the safety of our people,” said the governor. “Security is not just the government’s responsibility; it requires collaboration between authorities and the public. By formalizing neighborhood watch structures, we are empowering communities to take an active role in protecting lives and property.”
Governor Yusuf emphasized that the new initiative would address various security threats such as robbery, drug abuse, and other crimes affecting the state, urging residents to cooperate with security agencies and report suspicious activities.
Along with the Neighborhood Watch Law, Governor Yusuf also signed two additional laws: the Kano State Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (Amendment) Law, 2025, and the Kano State Centre for Disease Control and Prevention Law, 2025.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening security and improving the welfare of Kano’s residents.
